The Mohegan Sun is another huge casino right nearby Foxwoods in Connecticut. Together these two have annual incomes larger than many small countries.

Mohegan has well over 6200 slot machines. You can find almost any denomination, and they are currently touting their 1/2 cent machines which they have a handful of (20 or so).

The casino opened in 1996, but what you see there now is radically different. It is world class facility that compare what is offered in Atlantic City and Las Vegas.

The Mohegan Sun is owned and operated by the Mohegan Tribe, and they also own and run the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs in Pennsylvania.

Where do we start?

Foxwoods is the largest and one of the original great Indian Casinos in the US. Mohegan Sun follows close behind and sometimes jumps ahead of them with machines, tables and shops restaurants and amenities.

Don’t let anyone fool you though, Foxwoods is the equal to most of the greats in Las Vegas. They are, in 2008, the largest casino in the world with 7400 machines and 380 table games.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation opened the casino as a bingo hall in 1986. Since then it has grown by leaps and bounds after the agreement (Compact) with the State of Connecticut in 1992.

In the news today the Venetian in Macao has opened and is said to be the largest casino in the world. It represents 2.4 billion dollars worth of investment.

It is the largest building in the world after the Boeing manufacturing plant and the largest building in Asia. The Venetian Macao has over 1,000,000 square feet of meeting space, over 550,000 square feet of gaming space with 3,400 slot machines and 870 table games.

Compare this the square footage of Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun in Connecticut.

Foxwoods has 7,200 slots, 340,000 square feet of gaming, 400 table games.

Mohegan Sun has 6,197 slots, 300,000 square feet of gaming, 315 table games.

The MGM Grand is the largest hotel in the world with over 5000 rooms. This casino is has been a premier destination for gamblers from around the world for over 15 years. It has over 170,000 square feet of gaming space. The impressive MGM Grand Lion in from of the Casino and Hotel is one of the most recognizable icons in gaming.

The MGM is on the corner of the Strip (Las Vegas Boulevard) and E Tropicana Ave. The New York New York Hotel and Casino is across the Strip. The Tropicana is across Tropicana Ave and the Excalibur is on the opposite corner.

The Wynn is the very first Casino Review on Casino and Slot Review.  It is appropriate that I start with the gold standard of casinos as my inaugural review.  Steve Wynn built Las Vegas into the destination resort that it is starting in the eighties with the Mirage and later with the Bellagio.  The Wynn is a 2.7 billion dollar casino on the Las Vegas Strip located where the Desert Inn was.

First things first. The Wynn is a great casino. It is weighted towards high-end players, big spenders. The initial calculations that I heard was that the Casino needed to profit $1,000,000 a day to pay for itself.  It has done that and more.

Originally Wynn was going to call the casino ”Le Reve.” He thought better of that and uses that for the free show onsite.   

I love this casino because everything is so well integrated and the customer service is superb. As a professional in the industry you quickly recognize the sophisticated use of the player loyalty system.  They are prompt in sending offers to players via mail and email. 

As a slot player there are some exciting things at the Wynn.  Wynn has a lot of machines that are personallized with Wynn logos on the reels themselves.  These are variants of the Blazing 7’s machines that can only be played at the Wynn.
